PRESS RELEASE – new book by Taylor Napolsky
Bizarre Publishing House editor Taylor Napolsky’s new novel, Modern Fiction, will be published by Hesse Press
A novel that is both inviting and frustrating, Modern Fiction explores various locus points where storytelling or myth reside in the present moment: movie theaters, museums, video games, and even communication from the beyond—which may or may not be AI-generated.
Jess, an aspiring novelist, works at an art museum with her friend Kavya. When a sensational new TV show emerges, a major distraction is added to their lives: the show uses a new technology that makes people feel like they're inside it, as if they’ve been pulled in.
As Jess begins to use the show as a place to write, messages appear on documents, and sometimes in the air. Rumors suggest something in the show has gone rogue, providing new clues to an impending threat on the horizon.
“An expansive and intellectual novel about friendship and the role of mythmaking in art. Taylor Napolsky is a promising novelist, and his work is refreshing, contemporary, and insightful.” —Hedi El Kholti, co-editor of Semiotext(e)
